Tech Tools – USB Drive

Okay, this is an oldie but goodie but still useful. You have a large file that is too big to email or your company won’t allow Dropbox type programs. The answer? USB drive.

USB or thumb drives have been around for years and have come down dramatically in price. You can get a 16 gig drive for under $15.00.

Uses

  1. Back-up files – while cloud storage is the rage and great, never rely on only one type of backup. I’ve had external hard drives fail and USB drives fail. But if they do, I have another source. USB drives are another source.
  2. Transferring files – you can mail a USB drive to someone else with a file to use or just hand it to someone.
  3. Programs – you can put programs on USB files to install programs on a computer. CAUTION: Don’t install anything on your computer that you don’t know where it came from.

USB drives are small and can fit easily in a pocket, briefcase or purse. I keep one with me just in case. You can get a USB drive easily at Wal-Mart or BestBuy. Next time you’re at one of those stores, check it out.
